The Duke and Duchess of Sussex lose out on another title

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's names have massively dropped in popularity in Britain, according to the UK-based BabyCentre.

However, their daughter Princess Lilibet, who is known as Lily by her parents, has the most popular name for a girl in 2023.

BabyCentre's website reads: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also made their mark in the media, following the release of their explosive and somewhat controversial documentary and Harry's memoir Spare.

"Crashing down from 13th place to number 23, the previously popular name Harry seems to have had a negative reception from parents this year.

"Meghan and its alternate spelling Megan have also dropped in registrations."

It is unclear whether the popularity of the name Lily has much to do with Princess Lilibet, with the name soaring to first place for 2023.

The website claimed: “Flower names in particular have grown in the hearts of parents, Lily tops the chart at number one, followed by Jasmine, up 28 places to number 67."

In comparison, Princess Charlotte's first name has fallen to number 25 in the list of most popular girl names in 2023.

BabyCentre suggested that Britons naming their daughters Charlotte may also have a royal link: "Charlotte has also been a popular choice this year, soaring up to number 25 in the top 100.

"Could this be due to the release of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story?"

In terms of the royal boys, Prince Archie's name came in 16th place, seven places ahead of his dad's name.

But the heir to the throne Prince George has the more popular name, with his moniker landing in ninth place.

BabyCentre commented: "Though still high in popularity, George and Luca have fallen down two places, landing at numbers nine and 10."

Prince Louis's name is the least popular out of the royal boys, with his name coming in 30th place.

The names Catherine or Kate did not rank at all in the most popular baby names for 2023, however, William came in 49th place.

Another royal baby name which made the list was Sienna, the name of Princess Beatrice's two-year-old daughter - who ranked 24th in the list, one place ahead of Charlotte.
