For a reigning head of state to offer such an intimate, televised reflection on their own medical condition represents a remarkable shift in how the Palace communicates about the sovereign's health.
The King received his diagnosis in February 2024, when doctors discovered a form of cancer during what had been routine hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the condition is not prostate-related but has declined to specify the exact type of cancer, citing medical privacy.
Since that diagnosis, the King has undergone weekly treatment while refusing to scale back his royal duties significantly.
His working diary has remained packed throughout the past year, with the monarch completing five state visits in 2025 alone.

His initial decision to go public with his condition prompted a substantial surge in people accessing cancer information through NHS and charity websites.
Tonight's broadcast will see the King emphasise the critical role of screening programmes in catching cancer early, while also reflecting on his personal journey through treatment and recovery.
The message was filmed in late November within the Morning Room at Clarence House.
Following the King's address, Channel 4 will air a distinctive live programme from a cancer clinic at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Davina McCall, who underwent treatment for breast cancer herself recently, will present this unique broadcast from the Cambridge facility.

The evening forms the centrepiece of this year's Stand Up To Cancer campaign, which aims to highlight early diagnosis as crucial to improving outcomes, alongside its traditional fundraising mission for cancer research and supporting those living with the disease.
When the diagnosis was first announced, Buckingham Palace issued a statement explaining that during the King's hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, doctors had noted a separate concern, with subsequent tests confirming cancer.
The Palace stated at the time: "His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
King expressed gratitude to his medical team for their rapid response, made possible by his earlier hospital visit, and remained positive about his treatment prospects.
This year's Stand Up To Cancer campaign has introduced an online screening checker enabling users to discover which breast, bowel and cervical screening programmes they qualify for, whilst providing Cancer Research UK information and directing people to additional support services.
