A royal commentator has revealed that the King may reveal what type of cancer he has after Buckingham Palace announced that he would be returning to duties today.
In a new statement from Buckingham Palace, the King, 75, is confirmed to be returning to royal duties after being diagnosed with a form of cancer two months ago.
So far the monarch has kept his type of cancer private as he recovers, but he did reveal it was discovered after he underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate.
This prompted a huge surge in the number of people getting their prostate checked. Royal commentator Michael Cole has now revealed that he thinks this could encourage the King to share more.
Speaking to GB News, Cole said: "Of course, he's the head of state. He's a person, a public personality and a world figure, but he's entitled to his privacy.
"The way that he wants to announce it, is the way that it should be announced. And I'm sure in due course, as he feels comfortable with it and as the treatment progresses, and it sounds as if it's progressing well, I'm sure he will take that in advisement.
"I mean he was surprised by the terrific reaction when he had made this announcement of cancer, how it stimulated the interest in the various cancer charities and got people checking themselves up.
"All of this is a very good thing. It's what a leader of a country should do, and he's doing it supremely well."
The full statement released by Buckingham Palace read: "His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis.
"This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead."
The statement continued: "In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State Visit in June, at the request of HM Government.
"As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year."
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed: "His Majesty’s treatment programme will continue, but doctors are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far that The King is now able to resume a number of public-facing duties.
"Forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary to minimise any risks to His Majesty’s continued recovery."

GettyRegarding how long cancer treatments will continue, the spokesperson added: "It is too early to say, but His Majesty’s medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about The King’s continued recovery."
The King is understood to be performing public engagements subject to his doctors' advice.
The spokesperson continued: "Any public-facing engagements will be announced nearer the time in the usual way, and will remain subject to doctors’ advice, but it will not be a full summer programme.
"His Majesty will of course continue with all official State business and selected audiences, as he has done throughout his period of treatment."
