The food critics is already a regular guest on MasterChef

Queen Camilla's son Tom Parker Bowles is reportedly in talks to appear on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 50-year-old food writer and critic could be swapping kitchen utensils for dancing shoes as BBC bosses eye him for the flagship entertainment show.

BBC producers are thought to be keen to sign Parker Bowles due to his royal connections and previous appearance on MasterChef, The Mirror reports.

A source revealed: "It would be a coup to sign someone with such a strong royal link. Maybe we could see Camilla and Charles in the audience?"

The extended Royal Family member was reportedly approached last year but discussions "never materialised".

The food critic has built a successful career in his own right, separate from his royal connections.

Parker Bowles is well-established in the culinary world as an award-winning food writer and cookbook author.

He regularly appears as a judge on BBC's MasterChef, where viewers have become familiar with his expertise.

"Top of their wish list is MasterChef star Tom," the source explained.

"His name was also sounded-out last year but never materialised. Bosses hope they'll have better luck this year," they added.

The news comes after Parker Bowles revealed he suffered from hypochondria during an appearance on Gabby Logan's Mid Point podcast.

"I'm a total hypochondriac, I'm always convinced that I'm dying of something, like a headache is always going to be brain cancer, a cough is always going to be lung (cancer)," he confessed.

Parker Bowles is a renowned food critic and author away from royal life.

The 50-year-old continued: "I do go to my doctor, who is a magnificent man, rather a lot, saying 'this is it doc, this is the big one'."

Hypochondria, also referred to as health anxiety, is defined by the NHS as a condition that occurs "when you spend so much time worrying you're ill, or going to get ill, that it starts to take over your life".

The condition is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

According to NHS information, approximately five to 10 per cent of people in the UK suffer from hypochondria.

Signs of the condition include constantly worrying about health, frequently checking for illness symptoms, seeking reassurance from others, worrying that doctors have missed something, and obsessively researching health information online.

How this would affect his hypothetical Strictly campaign, which often sees celeb contestants and pro dancers pull out due to injury, remains to be seen.

Despite his health anxiety, Parker Bowles previously told Vogue magazine he made lifestyle changes ahead of turning 50, saying: "I was like: 'Right, I'm getting too fat.'"

More recently, Parker Bowles has focused on writing cookery books.

His latest publication, "Cooking and the Crown: Royal Recipes from Queen Victoria to King Charles III", features 100 recipes spanning two centuries of royal culinary history.
