King Charles’ separation from his granddaughter, Princess Lilibet, will be causing him great "pain", a veteran royal expert has suggested.
Lilibet, the daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was celebrating her fourth birthday on Wednesday.
Princess Lilibet was born in Santa Barbara, California, following Prince Harry and Meghan's departure from royal duties and relocation to the United States. She is seventh in line to the throne.
Royal expert Jennie Bond felt the time Charles had now spent apart from his granddaughter was deeply harming the monarch, even as his rift with Harry continues.

"I can only imagine the pain that Charles must feel when he thinks about all he is missing," Bond reflected.
Charles’s last meeting with Lilibet was also his first, during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Two years on, the former BBC royal correspondent told The Mirror that missing so many cherished moments would be wearing on Charles.
"These are years and occasions that cannot be relived and, once passed, they are gone forever.

"It’s incredibly sad," Bond concluded.
Lilibet is the younger sibling to Prince Archie, aged six, who was born at London's Portland Hospital whilst his parents were still serving as working royals.
Her birthday has been marked in several posts by her mother, Meghan, in which new images of the young Princess were shared.
The spree of posts culminated in a bizarre throwback video from 2021, which showed a heavily pregnant Meghan and Harry dancing as they were getting ready to welcome their daughter.
In her first post, the Duchess of Sussex wrote on Instagram: "Happy birthday to our beautiful girl!

"Four years ago today she came into our lives - and each day is brighter and better because of it.
"Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!"
She then later shared two unseen photos of her young daughter as she celebrated the special bond between Princess Lilibet and her father.
Meghan wrote: "The sweetest bond to watch unfold.

The possibility of a reunion between Charles and his grandchildren appears distant, as the rift between Prince Harry and his father continues to grow.
The feud was reignited in April when Harry undertook a bombshell BBC interview critical of the Royal Family.
Last week, it also emerged the Duke has sought to change the surname he shares with his father, Mountbatten-Windsor.
During a visit to the UK, Harry investigated adopting the family name Spencer, the maiden name of his mother, Princess Diana.
