The Princess of York is the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson

Princess Eugenie "draws a line" with the Royal Family as she "despises being under a microscope", sources have claimed.

This is in comparison to her older sister, Princess Beatrice, who has recently undertaken many public engagements to do with dyslexia.

This comes as Princess Kate, 42, has temporarily paused royal duties as she recovers from abdominal surgery.

Some royal commentators have suggested the York Princesses should step up and perform duties on behalf of King Charles.

However, speculation has brewed over Princess Eugenie's reluctance to perform royal engagements.

A source claimed: “Beatrice stepped up to represent the Royal Family at mental health week recently which is an event Kate would have attended.

“She’s also been taking the lead at public occasions like the Cheltenham Festival and other family gatherings which is a clear sign of her taking on more royal responsibility.

“Eugenie, on the other hand, is not as keen to take on that kind of responsibility as she despises being under a microscope and wants to focus on what’s dear to her.”

The source added that despite encouragement from Palace aides, Eugenie seems content with a quieter life with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

They continued to tell OK!: “Eugenie is quite happy to take a back seat.

“She’s quite content with championing her Slavery Collective charity and other worthy causes, but when it comes to stepping in for more senior members of the Royal Family in more of an official capacity is where she draws the line.”

The source also claimed that Princess Beatrice's dedication to her duties has not gone unnoticed by King Charles and Prince William who now see her in a new light.

“Beatrice has become an important part of the royal family, especially as Kate recovers,” the source said.

“Both the King and William have seen how well Beatrice has stepped up in recent weeks and that’s why they are happy to push her to the front and represent the family in public.

“Although the move is currently being seen as a temporary unofficial role to help plug the gaps while Charles and Kate recover, it could become more permanent in the future.”

Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi live in St James's Palace in London.
