Princess Eugenie is “reluctant” to step in for the royals as she “wants her own career,” according to a source.

As King Charles and Princess Kate step back from royal duties for cancer treatment, the Royal Family has been left with a slimmed-down monarchy.

There have been calls for Princess Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice to take on more duties as other senior members of the family fill the gaps in the royal diary.

However, according to King Charles’ ex-butler, Princess Eugenie may not want to add more to her schedule at this time.

Grant Harrold, who worked for Charles for seven years, said: “Princess Eugenie is probably cautious to step up to royal duties because it does take up your whole life.

“I’ve seen the schedules, and you can’t switch it on and off.”

Princess Eugenie, who recently celebrated her 34th birthday, is currently a non-working royal, however, she and Beatrice do attend family events.

Harrold told The Post: “Eugenie is very keen to have her own career, and that’s something she is very passionate about — so yes, she probably is reluctant to take on royal duties.”

Princess Eugenie works with a number of charities, including Children in Crisis and Anti-Slavery International.

The princess studied art history and English literature at Newcastle University and secured her first job in the art industry after graduating.

Eugenie worked at an online auction house Paddle8 in New York and later became the associate director of Hauser & Wirth art gallery.

However, Grant hinted that as the Royal Family continue to experience health concerns Eugenie may need to step up.

He said: “As times become more desperate, it’s very likely we will see her move from that to become a working senior member of the family.”

Eugenie is also a working mother sharing two young boys with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

The Princess of York was recently in Hong Kong at the international art fair, Art Basel 2024.

Eugenie regularly attends the annual event and was spotted among the guests at the VIP previews.

Angela Levin said: “It seems whatever happens, despite how dreadful, with Andrew or their mother getting cancer, Eugenie and Beatrice are very positive.

“I don’t know if Eugenie would have sat down with her father and had a chat to maintain a relationship after the scandal.

“She’s moved to Portugal. I know she wanted to get away from London and maybe she feels she wants to get away from the scandal.”
