The insider told the Daily Beast: "All they have ever done is stand by their parents in the most horrifically public circumstances.

"I don’t think it’s fair to criticise them for that.

"They’re sweet girls who understand that they are immensely privileged and have always been grateful for the privilege they’ve had and have tried to use it to do the right thing.

"They were told to get jobs by the firm, and they did that."

It comes as Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are said to be "utterly mortified" following claims made about their father in Andrew Lownie's book, according to the Daily Mail.

The author describes the explosive biography as a "tale of childhood trauma, infidelity, lust, betrayal, corruption, greed, extravagance, arrogance, entitlement, establishment cover-up and hubris".

Amid the maelstrom of reaction to the new claims, a source close to the family of Beatrice and Eugenie has said they have been left "utterly mortified".

However, a source close to Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson said the couple are not fazed by the claims made against them.

The source told the Daily Beast: "It would be totally inaccurate to say they are devastated or heartbroken by the book, or any of this c***.

"There are absolutely no new revelations—it’s just a rehash of things already said brought together in one place.

"The family used to wonder when this would ever end; now they know it never will. It’s just, the tide comes in and the tide goes out."
