Princess Eugenie has continued her quest to raise awareness around human trafficking and modern slavery as she visited a safe house for survivors.

The 35-year-old royal visited the “wonderful” institution run by The Salvation Army where she met with staff and took part in a crafting workshop with those staying in the building and receiving support.

The cause of the safehouse is one particularly close to Eugenie’s heart as it dovetails with the work of her own charity, the Anti-Slavery Collective.

“Today I went on a wonderful tour of this wonderful safe house. I think it’s really important that people that people human trafficking and modern slavery exist today,” Eugenie said as she toured alongside two residents.

She was shown the institutions various amenities, including the gym, multi-faith room, sensory space and craft room.

A video documenting the visit, shared by Eugenie and The Salvation Army on social media, showed her pooling over photos from events and hearing about the work being done.

Residents appeared with their faces blurred to protect their identity.

The Princess asked: “How many people live in the house?”

“We can have up to 32 women living here,” she was told.

As she toured, Eugenie made clear her belief that “people deserve to be looked after and helped and supported.”

To that end, she praised the staff of the safehouse for their tireless work to care for residents.

“The staff are just incredible at what they do, they’re so dedicated,” the Princess said.

Eugenie also celebrated the work of The Salvation Army in running the safehouse.

“The survivors I’ve met, their lives are changed because of the Salvation Army’s intervention,” she observed.

Beyond helping the survivors, the royal also credited the charity for helping her better understand crisis of human trafficking and modern slavery in her own quest to raise awareness.

“I wanted to make a difference and educate people about that this happening and the Salvation Army were a huge part of my learning of this subject.

It’s so important that charities like the Salvation Army and my charity, the Anti-Slavery Collective, work together to support and make a difference and make a change,” Eugenie said.

During the visit, the 35-year-old sat down for a lino printing session with other survivors.

“When we meet people like the Princess, we feel our voice is heard,” one shared after the meeting.

During the session, Eugenie made two cards. One displaying the message “you are strong” with the other featuring an image of her "superwoman" flying and wearing a cape.

As the visit drew to a close, the royal hugged and took selfies with survivors before being waved off.
