Prince William's brother, Prince Harry, also held a working role within the Royal Family until he decided to walk away from the Firm in 2020 alongside his wife, Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry wanted to secure a part-time working role for the Royal Family before his departure, but was told this was not possible.

Marlene Koenig, a royal historian, added: "William and Catherine, to a certain extent, are going to rip up the rule book and do it their way."

Despite the monarchy becoming more streamlined, it will still be possible for both Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to hold working roles within the Royal Family when they become adults.
