Princess Charlene is perhaps "less confident speaking on camera" due to a language barrier, a royal author has claimed.
The Princess of Monaco, who is originally from South Africa, married the Prince of Monaco in 2011.
Charlene, 45, rarely sits down for interviews for the press, which has helped create a mystique around the princess.
However, during the Prince of Monaco's annual New Year's Eve speech, Charlene jumped in at the end to wish viewers a Happy New Year in French, English and Monegasque.

Gareth Russell, a royal author, spoke exclusively to GB News to discuss whether or not Charlene feels comfortable speaking on camera.
He said: "It's worth remembering that sometimes royalty who are born abroad, and their first language is not the language that they marry into, often face a lot of mockery and even criticism for the way they speak their adopted language.
"In some cases, like Queen Mary of Denmark, that doesn't happen, because of her own choice, she underwent an intense language course in Copenhagen before her engagement was announced.
"So she became quickly fluent in Danish.

Reuters"But if you look at her father-in-law Prince Henrik, it was commonly said in Denmark for years, I can remember hearing it when I visited, that Prince Henrik can't speak Danish.
"And in fact, that wasn't true. He just spoke Danish with quite a heavy French accent, which people made fun of.
"So it is also possible that Princess Charlene falls into that bracket of maybe a royal who has unfortunately endured a few media insults for her accent and the way she speaks the language and that makes her feel less confident speaking it on camera."
The first time Princess Charlene was heard speaking French in public was after her twins were born in 2014.

This was also their wedding location 12 years ago, a ceremony that was attended by British royalty like the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
