Princess Beatrice opened up on Sarah Ferguson’s health following her mother’s cancer diagnosis.

The Princess of York appeared in a rare interview from the top of the Empire State Building earlier this week.

During the interview with This Morning, she spoke about her mother who is “doing really well” after her second cancer diagnosis within six months.

The Duchess of York was diagnosed with breast cancer last year before undergoing a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

In January, the duchess announced that she had also been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

On Monday, the princess stood at the top of the Empire State Building in New York where she launched a campaign with the charity, Outward Bound.

When asked by presenters Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson about her mother’s health, Beatrice said that Ferguson “had a bumpy health scare last year” but has had the “all clear” and is “thriving.”

Beatrice said: “She’s been through so much but I think, really, now she’s sort of coming into her own. I think we’re just reminded, when any parent or individual has sort of a health scenario, just really get the checks that you need to get as early as you possibly can.

“I think, you know, both my sister and I are so proud of her for taking those steps to get those checks and [we’ve] sort of really modelled our health considerations on that.

“We’re really lucky in the UK to make sure that you can get those checks as best you can and hopefully we can do as much as we [can] to support each other when anyone goes through a health scare.”

She added later in the interview: “Nothing’s more important than family.”

During her appearance, the princess wore a silky black skirt paired with a ‘Guesna’ khaki green jacket.

The 35-year-old paired the outfit with black and white Veja Cotton Pierre Sneakers and wore her hair down in loose curls.

Sarah Ferguson’s eldest daughter also spoke about her love for the Big Apple noting that she lived in the city in 2015 while she worked for the software company, Afiniti.

She said: “I had the opportunity to live here for a couple of years, so I’ve got some wonderful friends, some fantastic local haunts that I really enjoy.”

The Duchess of York is not the only member of the Royal Family to be diagnosed with cancer this year; King Charles and Princess Kate also announced their cancer diagnoses in 2024.
