Sources close to the royal sisters describe them as "aghast" and "mortified" by the alleged correspondence between their parents and Epstein

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have decided to separate themselves publicly from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson but support their parents privately, according to a source.

Despite the devastating fallout from emails exchanged between their parents and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Beatrice and Eugenie have chosen to maintain their support, insiders claim.

The sisters are remaining "loyal to their parents in private while separating themselves in public" following the damaging revelations contained within the Epstein Files.

Their family unit remains intact but under significant pressure, according to insiders. "

They added: “The last I heard, the daughters were still supporting both parents behind the scenes."

The insider told the Daily Mail: "They are aghast at what they have read. They are mortified by the emails their mother has sent to Epstein. It is so embarrassing for them."

The princesses are said to feel ashamed by the nature of their mother's alleged messages to the paedophile financier.

In the emails, the former Duchess of York appears to lavished praise on Epstein.

On 3 August 2009, Ferguson allegedly wrote: "In just week, after your lunch, it seems the energy has lifted. I have never been more touched by a friends kindness than your compliment to me in front of my girls. Thank you Jeffrey for being the brother I have always wished for."

The princesses are also said to be "appalled" and "embarrassed" by photographs that appear to show their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, crouching over an unidentified woman lying on the floor.

A subsequent message saw her appear to describe the late financier as "a legend" while expressing overwhelming gratitude.

"You are a legend. I really don't have the words to describe, my love, gratitude for your generosity and kindness. Xx I am at your service. Just marry me," she appear to write.

The princesses are also said to be "appalled" and "embarrassed" by photographs that appear to show their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, crouching over an unidentified woman lying on the floor.

The source added: "We don't believe the girls [Beatrice and Eugenie] were told much about what has just emerged, and they will simply be aghast at just how close their parents were to this appalling man."

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has always denied the allegations against him and appearing in the Epstein files is not evidence of any wrongdoing. Inclusion in the documents does not implicate anyone in Epstein's criminality.
