The Princess Royal took a trip to Sheffield on Wednesday

Princess Anne has shown support for Princess Eugenie with her latest outing.

The Princess Royal showed her continued commitment to important causes as she carried out engagements on behalf of King Charles in Sheffield on Wednesday.

Anne, 74, visited the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield to officially open a new outdoor sanctuary for spinal injury patients.

The King's sister inaugurated the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre’s therapeutic garden, developed by the charity Horatio’s Garden.

The space was inspired by an award-winning design showcased at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show in 2023.

Olivia Chapple, the charity’s founder, described the moment as incredibly moving: “It's an incredible feeling; seeing patients explore this garden for the first time was one of the most moving experiences.

“It is the eighth garden installed in a spinal injury unit by the charity since the first was opened in 2012.”

The visit held extra significance due to the Royal Family's ties to the charity.

Princess Eugenie is patron of Horatio's Garden, which Princess Anne visited on Wednesday

Princess Eugenie, Anne’s niece and the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, is patron of Horatio’s Garden.

In May, Eugenie opened a similarly vibrant garden at Salisbury District Hospital, underlining her long-standing support for the cause.

Princess Anne’s appearance in Sheffield was seen as a meaningful show of solidarity with her niece’s work.

Writing on Instagram, Horatio's Garden said: "We were really proud to welcome HRH The Princess Royal @theroyalfamily to celebrate the opening of Horatio’s Garden Sheffield & East at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre.

"Her Royal Highness took the time to meet many people with spinal injuries, their families and friends, NHS staff, supporters and the garden’s award-winning designers Charlotte Harris and Hugo Bugg from @harrisbuggstudio.

"After also joining a gardening session with Margaret, Her Royal Highness planted an Aruncus ‘Horatio’ before unveiling a plaque to mark the official opening."

Nine weeks ago, when Princess Eugenie visited Horatio's Garden South West, the charity said: "It was brilliant to welcome our patron Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie to Horatio’s Garden South West on a beautiful sunny day earlier this month.

"@princesseugenie spent time chatting to many people with spinal injuries, volunteers and NHS staff and hearing stories from so many about how the garden has helped them as she toured it with our founder Olivia."
