The Prince of Wales has said 'too many people have died' in the Israel-Hamas conflict

Royal Biographer Tom Bower has criticised Prince William following his statement on the ongoing conflict in Israel.

The Prince of Wales made an intervention on the war in the Middle East on Tuesday, calling for an "end to the fighting".

Throughout February, William will carry out engagements which "recognise the human suffering caused by the ongoing war in the Middle East".

As the royal released his statement on Tuesday, the Prince visited the headquarters of the British Red Cross to hear about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Prince William said he "wants to see an end to the fighting" in Israel and that "too many have been killed".

The Prince of Wales stated: "I remain deeply concerned about the terrible human cost of the conflict in the Middle East since the Hamas terrorist attack on 7 October. Too many have been killed.

"I, like so many others, want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible. There is a desperate need for increased humanitarian support to Gaza. It’s critical that aid gets in and the hostages are released."

Bower described the statement as a "disaster" for the royal and said "nobody needs his contribution" on the issue.

Speaking to GB News, Bower claimed the statement had been "badly advised" by Kensington Palace, and it had been penned with the help of "the hand of Lord Cameron".

The royal biographer added that the move by the Prince of Wales is "appalling".

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Bower told host Nigel Farage: "I think it's been a disaster for Prince William to get involved in this. I think that his officials in Kensington Palace should have warned him to stay out of it because it can only end badly.

"He didn't have advisers to tell him to him have nothing to do with it. He should have rejected the request by Lord Cameron, whoever it was in the government, to make the speech, because this is on the eve of Wednesday's debate."

Bower highlighted that the statement failed to mention the soaring cases of antisemitism in Britain, calling the issue a "very ugly situation" of "rampant anti-Semitism".

He claimed that the Palace "should have stayed out of it" and refrained from taking a stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict all together.

Bower fumed: "There is no peace with Hamas. It is a terrorist organisation intent on destruction and murder. So what on earth Prince William's advisers thought of adopting Lord Cameron's view, the government's view - it's beggars belief where this could end up.

Host Nigel Farage argued that Prince William would be "the one to make the decision" on his statement, but admitted the late Queen Elizabeth II "would not have made a statement like this".

Bower responded in agreement: "The Queen would never have said anything like this. And I don't even think that Prince Charles and his most reckless interventions into politics would have.

"Prince William should have been silent. Nobody needs his contribution on this issue. And by intervening he has made the whole problem far worse because he's politicised the whole issue as far as the monarch is concerned."
