Diana was also president of over 100 charities including Help The Aged, now AgeUK and Barnardo’s.

Many people believe that the princess was instrumental in trying to end the stigma against HIV/AIDs.

In April 1987, she opened the UK’s first HIV/AID’s unit, a space exclusively for patients with the virus.

Photographs of the princess shaking hands with a person with the virus without gloves became a symbol of her kindness.
