The visit left students at the college in shock

The Prince and Princess of Wales were seen visiting Marlborough College in Wiltshire alongside Prince George and Princess Charlotte, a source has claimed.

Students at the prestigious institution were directed away from the main courtyard and instructed to remain indoors during the royal tour.

"They were shocked to see Catherine and William getting out of a very smart car and walking through court," the source said.

The visit's timing became apparent to those present when they noticed an unusual number of extracurricular events had been organised for the day.

"Then it clicked why the school seemed to have put on so many very wholesome extra-curricular activities that day, like choir practice and a random art show," the source told the Mail on Sunday.

Prince George, who is currently 12 years old, is completing his final year at Lambrook preparatory school.

Many had anticipated the young royal would follow his father, Prince William, to Eton, widely regarded as the world's most prestigious school.

However, the recent visit suggests he may instead take the same educational path as his mother, who attended the Wiltshire college after leaving her previous school.

Speculation about where the future king will continue his education has been building for some time.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald reported in December 2025 rumours about Prince George heading to Marlborough were intensifying, based on reports from The Telegraph suggesting the Prince and Princess of Wales had made their decision.

Marlborough College boasts several notable connections to the royal family and the Middletons.

The Princess of Wales herself studied there, as did her sister Pippa Middleton and Princess Eugenie.

Catherine's time at the college proved transformative after she experienced difficulties at her previous school.

Former headmaster and educational consultant Rhidian Llwellyn said in December: "It's well documented that Catherine did not have a happy time at Downe House and, having transferred to Marlborough, she flourished."

He added: "That works strongly in Marlborough's favour. I also think that she'd like to educate the three children in the same school."

The co-educational nature of Marlborough would allow all three Wales children to attend together, unlike the boys-only Eton.

Columnist Sophia Money-Coutts wrote in December that a well-placed source had confirmed the school choice.

"A well-connected friend called me last week. 'He's going to Marlborough', she said authoritatively," Ms Money-Coutts reported.

"'They've sent letters out to parents'. She meant Prince George. After many years of debate, Prince George will reportedly go to Marlborough College next September, like his mother aunt and uncle before him, and those with children in the same house have been quietly alerted."

Ms Llwellyn also suggested the choice offered practical benefits for the family's privacy.

"Eton is obviously the most prestigious school in the world, and keeping their heads slightly further under the parapet with Marlborough perhaps makes sense," he said.
