The Prince of Wales and Kate honoured the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death

Prince William has offered a rare glimpse into the personality of his youngest son, Prince Louis, during a recent royal engagement.

The Prince of Wales, 43, spoke about his seven-year-old while visiting the National Federation of Women’s Institute on September 8, the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

William and Princess Kate are parents to Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Louis, seven.

As he chatted with members over tea and cake, Nina Derrick asked: “Is Louis a bit of a handful?”

William replied: “He’s a character, but he’s a very good boy. He likes to wind his brother and sister up.”

The heir to the throne also shared a light-hearted remark about George when it was suggested he seemed to be the sensible one.

“When George is behind closed doors, it’s completely different. George just knows how to behave,” William said with a smile.

He went on to note there was “five years difference” between his sons, highlighting the age gap between George and Louis.

The Wales children have long charmed royal watchers with their distinct personalities.

Their most recent public outing as a trio came in June at Trooping the Colour, where Louis stole the spotlight with a cheeky wave from the Buckingham Palace balcony.

The family then retreated from the public eye for their summer break. At Monday’s event, William admitted he was relieved term time had begun.

“Thankfully, yes!” he said when asked if his children were back at school.

George, Charlotte and Louis returned last week to Lambrook, their coeducational prep school.

The year will be particularly poignant for George, who turns 13 next summer and will move on from Lambrook — his final year alongside his younger siblings.

Unlike previous heirs, George has always attended coed day schools, a reflection of William’s more modern approach to parenting.
