Ascot faced criticism this week after making multiple administrative errors

Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has been caught up in a Royal Ascot blunder following the confusion surrounding Princess Kate's attendance.

Royal Ascot faced criticism this week after making multiple administrative errors during the prestigious racing event.

The most notable blunder occurred on Thursday when the official carriage list incorrectly spelled Princess Beatrice's husband's name.

Instead of listing him as "Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi", the documentation showed "Mr Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi" - misspelling his first name.

The error was quickly spotted by eagle-eyed royal fans within minutes of the list being released online.

The mistake appeared particularly glaring as the couple rode in the third carriage during Thursday's royal procession alongside Princess Zahra Aga Khan and horse trainer William Haggas.

This wasn't the first administrative error of the week. On Wednesday, Royal Ascot's programme had incorrectly suggested that the Princess of Wales would attend day two of the races.

The confusion arose when Kate's name appeared in the carriage line-up alongside Prince William, professional golfer Justin Rose and his wife Kate Phillips.

Edoardo's name was incorrectly spelt as 'Eduardo' on the official Royal Ascot Carriage List.

Kensington Palace announced her withdrawal before 12.30pm, prompting a revised carriage list.

Sources revealed Kate was "disappointed" not to attend the races but "has to find the right balance" in her schedule.

Royal Ascot did not formally address the blunder, though the carriage list was subsequently corrected.

The errors occurred during one of the most significant events in the royal diary, which runs annually across five days in June.

This year's event began on Tuesday, June 18 and continues until Sunday, June 22.

Royal Ascot holds particular importance as a longstanding tradition, with the late Queen Elizabeth II having been a devoted supporter who attended almost every year.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have continued the royal presence, with senior royals appearing on each day.

The administrative blunders have drawn attention to organisational issues at an event that traditionally maintains the highest standards of protocol and precision.

The misspelling of Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's name proved particularly embarrassing as the couple were photographed throughout the day wearing proper nametags with his name spelled correctly.
