Prince William honoured a legendary SAS hero at a memorial service today.

The Prince of Wales travelled to Hereford Cathedral to attend a memorial service for Major Mike Sadler, the last original member of the Special Air Service who died in January at the age of 103.

Major Sadler was also known for his exploits which were dramatised in the BBC series SAS: Rogue Heroes.

This was based on the 2016 book of the same name by Ben Macintyre.

Major Sandler was awarded the Polar Medal, military medal and military cross for his service.

The private service, which took place at Hereford Cathedral on Friday, was attended by close personal friends, family and colleagues.

William's attendance marked the second outing for the heir to the throne in 24 hours after he returned to public duties on Thursday.

His outing on Thursday was William's first engagement since the Princess of Wales's cancer diagnosis announcement last month.

Prince William, 41, visited Surplus to Supper, a surplus food redistribution charity in Sunbury-on-Thames.

His visit aimed to highlight the efforts to reduce food waste as a way to cut greenhouse gas emissions and feed people in need.

During the engagement, the Prince of Wales spoke about his commitment to helping Kate, 42, through her cancer diagnosis after he received heartfelt cards of support for her and King Charles, also battling the disease.

When volunteer Rachel Candappa asked William about Kate, telling him to "take care of her", he replied: "I will."

The prince showed his appreciation when he received the get well soon cards, touching the volunteer's shoulder and telling her: "Thank you very much, that's kind."

The Princess of Wales began a course of preventative chemotherapy for her illness last month.

In a video message on March 22, Kate asked for "time, space and privacy" as she and her family adjusted to her diagnosis.

Both King Charles and Princess Kate have been largely absent from the public stage since January due to health problems, leaving Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and other members of the Royal Family to carry the workload.
