Prince Louis gets "hyped up" during major Royal Family appearances, a photographer of the monarchy has explained.

Chris Jackson, a veteran royal photographer who has documented the British monarchy for decades, has released a new book offering readers an intimate glimpse into life behind Palace walls.

The publication, titled Modern Majesty: The British Royal Family Today, features hundreds of images spanning state visits to more personal, candid moments.

Mr Jackson noted that opportunities to capture the Wales children on camera remain relatively rare.

"We don't really get the opportunity to photograph the children very often, which is great, because it makes it all the more special," he explained whilst promoting the book.

Among the many memorable moments Mr Jackson has captured of Prince Louis over the years, one from Trooping the Colour 2025 stands out as his personal favourite.

The seven-year-old's enthusiastic exchange with the crowds below Buckingham Palace left the photographer thoroughly entertained.

"You are just chuckling behind the long lens on the balcony because he was waving at the crowd and they were waving at him, and he was waving at them, and you could see him getting hyped up," Mr Jackson recalled.

"So he'd wave, and they'd all cheer, and he'd wave, and he could see the response. He was loving it, and everyone's laughing around him. It's a lovely photo of him in the middle of his family."

For Mr Jackson, the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony holds particular significance as a marker of time passing within the Royal Family.

"Trooping the Colour is an event that's really important in the diary, and you see the children grow up over the years, and you look back, and it's kind of like a touchpoint for the family on the balcony," he said. "Things change, the children grow."

The photographer noted that capturing Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at such occasions consistently delivers surprises.

"It's always really exciting when you do get to photograph them, and there's always something a little bit unexpected and fun," Mr Jackson continued to tell Us Weekly.

Beyond the grand ceremonial occasions, Mr Jackson's book also showcases more intimate royal settings.

He described photographing King Charles at Highgrove House tending to his chickens as "a million miles away from the pomp and the ceremony of royal engagements," noting these quieter environments allow the royals to recharge before returning to official duties.

Mr Jackson also reflected on the privilege of documenting the three Wales children as they mature.

He told Page Six that observing George, Charlotte and Louis growing up has been "really special," adding that watching the siblings interact together brings particular joy.

"I'm guessing they realise it's not normal to be in these situations," he observed.
