The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020

Prince Harry is proving the Royal Family wrong on a sticking point that came to a head in negotiations over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's departure from the monarchy, according to a friend of the royal.

The Sussexes discussed staying within the Royal Family using a hybrid model that would see them become part-time working members of the monarchy, however, this concept was quickly shut down.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals shortly after that and have since signed multiple lucrative contracts including one with streaming giant Netflix.

The Duke of Sussex continues to work on the Invictus Games which he originally founded in 2014 when he was a working member of the Royal Family.

A friend of Harry's has said that the continued success of the Invictus Games shows that a hybrid working model could have worked.

The friend said: "Invictus is so important to him [Harry] and is very much a part of his former life."

"It shows there could have been a world in which a hybrid model could have worked.

"But it also shows that in his new world, and in his new life, he’s still capable of accomplishing the things that are so very important to him."

The friend told the Telegraph: "It [the Invictus Games] will enable him to remind people who he is, but also show them who he plans to be."

Another friend added: "He’s nervous because he’s an empath.

"It’s also a huge undertaking. He’s also so excited and enthused."

Last week, Prince Harry's documentary 'Heart of Invictus' was released on Netflix.

The Netflix documentary follows the 2022 edition of the Invictus Games which took place in The Hague in the Netherlands.

The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick serving military personnel and veterans.

While discussing his internal struggle after returning from Afghanistan, the Duke of Sussex said he had no around him that could help him.

In what appeared to be a subtle dig at the Royal Family, Harry sayid that he had no support structure or expert advice to help him cope during his struggle.

The Duke of Sussex said: "The biggest struggle for me was that no one around me could really help.

"I did not have that support structure, that network or expert advice to identify what was actually going on with me.

"Unfortunately like most of us, the first time you consider therapy is when you are lying on the floor in the fetal position, probably wishing that you had dealt with some of this stuff previously.

"That is what I want to change."
