A new biography about King Charles III was released on January 18

Prince Harry will not be allowed to rejoin the monarchy as a working member as “that ship has sailed,” according to a royal author.

A new book about the reign of King Charles III by Robert Hardman revealed that the King would love to have Harry back in the family, but not as a working member.

Hardman said: "Charles would love to have him back in the fold, not being royal again—I think that ship has sailed, and I'm sure Harry would not want to do that."

The author believes that at some point the King will mend the rift with Harry but does not know if the prince wants to repair the relationship.

Hardman said: “I don’t know how and when. Certainly, on this side of the Atlantic, the door is always open, and there’s so much other stuff going on.

"For Harry, it's a different order of magnitude, because, does he want to reengage with his family?"

In January 2020, Harry and Meghan proposed to earn money abroad in the private sector but also perform some royal duties.

But this proposition was rejected and there was a clean break between the family before the couple were stripped of their honorary titles and patronages in February 2021.

Since then, Harry and Meghan released a Netflix documentary where they outwardly criticised the Royal Family in December 2022, shortly followed by Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare.

Since the news of the Princess of Wales and the King’s medical procedures, there was speculation over whether Prince Harry would step in to help with the royal work shortage.

But the author explained that it does not work like that and integration back into the family would need to be gradual.

Hardman told Newsweek: "What would probably help move towards that situation is if he gradually started having a sort of normalizing... suddenly it's not such a big deal if Harry and Meghan are coming over to the U.K. privately with their children and having a playdate with their cousins.

"A lot of families go through these things, and they don't have to have it all scrutinised endlessly by the likes of you and me.

“I don't pretend to be close to the Sussexes at all but, from what I glean, it's a 'never say never' situation."

However, after the discriminatory claims Harry aimed at his brother in his memoir, the author suggests that it will be “trickier” to mend the sibling relationship.

Hardman said: "It's going to be a trickier rapprochement when it comes to the brothers.”
