Prince Harry made his first public appearance of 2026 with a visit to fire stations in the Santa Barbara area, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by firefighters as California continues to prepare for future wildfire seasons.
The Duke of Sussex toured the facilities earlier this month alongside John Mills, co-founder and chief executive of Watch Duty, the wildfire tracking organisation.
The engagement took place close to Harry's Montecito residence, where he lives with his wife, Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
Watch Duty shared photographs from the visit on social media, highlighting the duke's continued focus on supporting emergency responders.

During the tour, firefighters walked Harry through the practicalities of modern emergency response, showcasing specialist equipment used to tackle blazes.
The demonstrations included brush trucks designed for rugged terrain, rescue all-terrain vehicles, and thermal drones deployed in search-and-rescue operations.
First responders explained to the duke how Watch Duty's real-time wildfire mapping and alert application has become an indispensable resource when rapidly spreading fires demand split-second decisions.
"When seconds count, giving first responders access to clear, real-time insights can shape decisions that protect our neighborhoods," Watch Duty stated on Instagram.

The fire station visits underscore Harry's continuing collaboration with Watch Duty through Archewell Philanthropies, the recently rebranded charitable arm of the duke and duchess's foundation.
"We're proud to partner with Archewell Philanthropies, early supporters of Watch Duty during the devastating L.A. fires in 2025, and excited to keep building support for firefighters on the front lines," the organisation wrote alongside the images.
Through Archewell, Harry and Meghan provided funding to Watch Duty during the early stages of last year's California wildfire emergency, helping the nonprofit deliver verified, current information to both firefighters and affected communities.

Before Christmas, the duke spent time with crews in Camarillo and visited the Ventura Training Center of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, meeting formerly incarcerated individuals who now serve as firefighters through CAL FIRE and the California Conservation Corps.
