Paul Burrell says the Duke of Sussex “embarrassed the UK” by opting not to sing the national anthem.
Speaking on GB News, Burrell hit out at Harry and Meghan’s trip, branding it a “quasi royal tour”.
“It’s all about Harry and Meghan”, he said.
“It’s a massive public display and photo opportunity to bolster their flagging image.
“They’re about to launch two new programmes for Netflix, one about polo and one about cooking.

“They have to maintain their image of being royal and relevant, that is their USP (unique selling point). Without that, there is nothing else. But they are not in the same league as Princess Kate or Prince William.
“They are no longer working royals, they no longer represent the King or our country. They are undermining the good work which our royals do in Commonwealth countries.
“The Foreign Office should keep an eye on this and tell the high commissioners in all Commonwealth countries that this is not a royal visit.
“They played the national anthem, why? They didn’t sing it and I’m not sure Meghan knows the words.

“I just think it’s a mess. An absolute mess. Isn’t it embarrassing? Not only for them, but for our country. I just don’t get it.”
Harry channelled his late mother’s compassion during the trip with a trip to a military hospital in Kaduna, where he met wounded soldiers.
His wife, Meghan, spent her time engaging in conversations with locals.
She also co-hosted a women’s leadership event with Ngoni Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.
The duchess also spoke fondly of her Nigerian roots and its significance to her own identity.
She revealed on her Archetypes podcast two years ago that she is 43 per cent Nigerian.
