Prince Harry's friend has said the Duke of Sussex no longer takes the cautious approach which is normally adopted by royals and the Palace when speaking publicly.

He told The Sunday Times: "He’s free from the shackles of that mentality."

They added: "In Meghan, he has found someone supportive of that stance and he’s emboldened by that.

"But the bigger picture is that he believes there are some very significant wrongs that need to be righted."

The Duke was the first member of the Royal Family to appear in the dispatch box since 1891.

At the end of the 19th century the heir to the throne Prince Edward was called to give evidence during the Royal Baccarat Scandal.

Prince Harry appeared to choke back tears in the closing stages of the court grilling on Wednesday.

He also admitted to deciding to pursue legal cases against tabloid newspapers after a chance meeting in France with his lawyer David Sherborne.

The royal was grilled on when he first sought advice about a possible claim against MGN.

Harry said: "I didn’t go to them, I bumped into Mr Sherborne in France. It’s in my book."

The Duke of Sussex said that before he spoke to lawyers he had no concerns over any particular articles being the result of unlawful activity.

Harry said: "No, I was never shown anything. It was all contained within the palace."

He added regarding his conversations with the lawyers: "I think it was a discussion about how to find a way to stop the abuse and intrusion that was coming against me and my wife…without relying on the institution’s lawyers."
