The Duke of Sussex will attend the 2025 WellChild Awards on September 8

Prince Harry's return to London will coincide with the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's death.

The Duke of Sussex will attend the 2025 WellChild Awards on September 8 in London, exactly three years after the death of the late sovereign.

GB News' Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker told the channel: "It's the 8th of September, these awards, which is the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

"So I suspect, it's not been confirmed, but I suspect he may make a trip to Windsor Castle to pay respects at the grave of his grandmother at St George's Chapel for a private visit.

"I'd be highly surprised if he didn't do that."

Cameron added: "I think we would know after the fact, because I think somebody would leak it, whether it's from his camp or from Buckingham Palace or Kensington Palace. I think somebody would be able to find out."

The annual WellChild Awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of children with serious illnesses and the dedication of those who care for them.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry's wife, is not expected to join her husband in the UK due to security reasons.

When the Duke of Sussex lost his appeal earlier this year for automatic police protection in the UK, he told the BBC: “I can't see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the UK at this point.”

The WellChild Awards, now in its 20th year, are organised by the national charity for seriously ill children.

The event highlights the resilience of young people living with complex medical needs and honours the families, carers and professionals who support them.

Prince Harry, 40, has been Patron of WellChild for 17 years, helping to raise awareness and vital funds to improve the quality of life for seriously ill children.

The father-of-two has personally supported the charity’s mission and has attended the Awards on 14 previous occasions.

This year, as in previous years, he will meet each winner and their families at a pre-ceremony reception, listening to their stories and helping to create lasting memories.

During the ceremony, the Duke will present the Award for Inspirational Child (aged four to six) and deliver a speech.

In a statement, Prince Harry said: “I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit.

"For 20 years, these Awards have highlighted the courage of young people living with complex health needs and shone a light on the devoted caregivers – family and professionals - who support them every step of the way.

"Their stories remind us of the power of compassion, connection and community.”

Last year’s Awards, held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, brought together children, families, healthcare workers and supporters for a star-studded evening.
