Manchester United and Manchester City are battling it out for the FA Cup

Prince George is set to join Prince William at the FA Cup final after the Royal Family was forced to cancel duties.

The Prince of Wales, president of the Football Association, will sit in the royal box and present the trophy to the winning team at today's match between Manchester United and Manchester City.

His eldest son, who often attends football games with his father, is expected to join him for the highly-anticipated Wembley final, according to reports in The Daily Express.

Both are passionate Aston Villa fans and Prince William, 42, frequently attends the FA Cup final.

Prince George, 10, last joined his father at a football game on Thursday, April 11, to watch Aston Villa play Lille in the first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final.

The heir-to-the-throne wore a Villa scarf as the pair applauded and smiled.

After the match, William and George were elated when their team secured a 2-1 victory.

It marked Prince George's first public appearance since the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis in March.

Royal fans will welcome the sight of the father and son duo watching a pinnacle event in the football calendar.

George is known to be a keen football fan and in 2021 he beamed with joy following Luke Shaw's opener in the Euro final, as he attended the match with his parents.

Last week, Prince William hailed Villa for qualifying to play Champions League football next season, praising their “historic season” and “amazing achievement”.

William and George's upcoming appearance comes days after the Royal Family announced that they would be postponing engagements “which may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign” after Rishi Sunak called a snap General Election for July 4.

The Prince of Wales was due to carry out engagements on Thursday but cancelled them at the last minute.

King Charles also cancelled a series of visits planned for this week.

However, D-Day commemorations will go ahead as planned and ceremonial events such as Trooping the Colour and Order of the Garter are expected to be given the green light.
