Prince Edward met the world’s oldest living animal during his visit to St Helena

Prince Edward said that “men aren’t doing a very good job at the moment” in a bizarre rant during his trip to South Africa.

At the British High Commission in Pretoria on Monday Night the King’s brother announced enhanced scientific collaboration between the UK and South Africa but added surprising comments about men and coming together in a world that is unhappy and separated.

The prince said: “If I can be quite frank, men aren’t doing a very good job at the moment. So therefore I am not particularly happy about standing up here and speaking [as a man].

“But I will say there is more that binds us together, more that brings us together, than separates us.”

Edward’s speech is understood to be in response to speeches made by other people who mentioned a number of global conflicts.

A source stated: “His Royal Highness was reflecting on the need to build bridges and not allow conflict to drive communities apart.”

During his two-day trip to South Africa, the prince had a meeting with animal conservation groups to hear about how they are conserving nature and reversing biodiversity loss and how British aid is making a difference.

Last night, the prince travelled to St. Helena an island in the South Atlantic Ocean that is still a British Overseas Territory.

The duke’s wife, Sophie, campaigns on gender inequality issues and the disproportionate impact of conflict on women and girls.

In December 2023, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited Colombia to spread awareness of women impacted by war.

The duchess hosted a meeting with peacebuilders and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence to discuss Colombia’s 2024 role as Chair of the International Alliance on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative.

During Russia’s attacks on Ukraine women have been victims and survivors of extreme sexual abuse and violence while also maintaining the responsibility of caregiving for children under immense stress.

Edward is the first member of the Royal Family to visit the island since the Princess Royal travelled there 22 years ago in 2002.

Agnès Callamard, Amnesty International’s Secretary Genera explain that in Ukraine “Women confront increased sexual and gender-based violence and perilous health conditions, while being forced to make life and death survival decisions for their families.”
