Meghan Markle's former Suits co-star has admitted he is considering axing the Duchess of Sussex reference from his Instagram bio.

Patrick J. Adams has described the experiences of his former Suits colleague Meghan Markle since departing the legal drama as "insane."

The 44-year-old actor made the observation during an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast with presenter Amanda Hirsch, set to be released on Tuesday.

The discussion turned to the Duchess of Sussex after Ms Hirsch mentioned receiving a handwritten note from Meghan following social media posts about her Netflix programme, With Love, Meghan.

"What she's gone through is insane," Mr Adams remarked when Ms Hirsch noted she had previously expressed concern for Meghan online, acknowledging the actor's protective stance towards his former co-star.

During the podcast conversation, Ms Hirsch drew attention to Mr Adams's Instagram biography, which playfully references his famous co-star with the description: "the other guy from that show that you're watching on that app because that girl married that prince."

"I've got to change that," Mr Adams admitted, though Ms Hirsch objected to the idea. The Madison star suggested the duchess would likely find the bio amusing in a particular way.

"It's the sort of thing that wherever Meghan is, if she's ever read that, she's going, 'Patrick, give me a break,'" he said, mimicking an eye roll.

"I got a lot of eye rolls - that was a constant with Meghan," Mr Adams added, noting she had never actually commented on the bio but was confident it earned him "an eye roll."

Mr Adams and Meghan portrayed love interests Mike Ross and Rachel Zane on the USA Network series from its 2011 debut through to the seventh season, with their characters eventually tying the knot on screen.

The actor was among the Suits cast members present when Meghan married Prince Harry at their royal wedding in May 2018, while she was still appearing in the programme when her relationship with the prince began.

The pair no longer maintain regular contact. Mr Adams acknowledged in a Reddit post last October that they "are not really in touch," explaining that she "leads a very different life now for obvious and important reasons."

Nevertheless, when news emerged that Mr Adams and fellow cast member Sarah Rafferty were launching a Suits rewatch podcast, Meghan reached out with support.

"I got a lovely text, saying how excited she was for us and asking how she could help in any way," Mr Adams wrote at the time.

The podcast interview also saw Mr Adams reveal his newborn daughter's name for the first time.

The actor and his wife, Troian Bellisario, welcomed their third child in January, and he disclosed that the baby is called Imogen.

"We're rehearsing nicknames. We've got Imy, we've got Momo. Moji. We're seeing what sticks. But Imogen," he explained.

The couple are also parents to daughters Aurora, seven, and Elliot, four.
