Meghan Markle's fresh dig at the Royal Family has sparked a warning from a royal insider who "would love to say what really happened".

The insider has responded sharply to the Duchess of Sussex's latest public statements about the monarchy.

The source told the Mail: "There are a lot of people both within the [royal] households, and outside of them, who would love to say what really happened."

The comments came after Meghan Markle appeared on a podcast where she urged people to "tell the truth" about events from eight years ago.

The interview took place on entrepreneur Emma Grede's podcast, with the episode released just three days before Meghan's new As Ever product launch.

When asked by Grede, 42, whether she would rewrite her public narrative differently, Meghan replied: "Yes. I would ask people to tell the truth."

The Duchess then referenced a "lie" from eight years ago, though she did not specify what this referred to.

Grede, a founding partner of Kim Kardashian's Skims brand, responded: "You're very measured about it I would just get so angry if I felt like everyone was lying about me all the time."

Meghan responded to Grede's observation with: "Peaks and valleys. Of course, I've gone through those chapters and you do a lot of work, you do a lot of self work and go, 'What's the why?' It's happening for a reason."

The Duchess revealed that her "dear friend", tennis champion Serena Williams, had offered her guidance on the matter.

According to Meghan, Williams told her that "a lie can't live forever".

She concluded: "Eight years is a long time, but not forever."

The mother-of-two explained: "It was a great way to get my voice back."

Meghan added: "There's an intention. So I think in moments where I found I wasn't as empowered with my voice, I still wanted to be heard in other ways."
