The Sussexes announced they have begun to use the titles prince and princess for their children Archie and Lilibet

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are attempting to build a ‘woke alternative Royal Family’ with their move to give their daughter, Lilibet, the ‘Princess’ title.

The Sussexes announced they have begun to use the titles prince and princess for their children Archie and Lilibet.

Lili, who turns two in June, was baptised in California on Friday, with the couple’s spokesperson saying: “I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor.”

The couple’s move to embrace the royal titles has been met with questions due to their own repeated criticism of the monarchy, and the fact they both no longer have royal titles.

Royal biographer Angela Levin told GB News that the move marks an attempt by the Sussexes to build an alternative royal family that pursues a “woke” agenda.

She said: “I wonder whether it’s part of Harry and Meghan’s attempt to have a woke alternative royal family which they are trying to build up with themselves and other people.

“I have been thinking this for a long time. Whenever the royal family have an occasion, they do something to try and outsmart it.

“This would be yet another way of setting up their own family royal. I think it’s very concerning. It’s a shame for the little girl.”

Harry and Meghan have become estranged members of the royal family after making a series of scathing allegations about the firm.

Harry’s book, Spare, garnered criticism for key members of the royals, while their Netflix series also hit out at individuals such as King Charles.

The pair have seen their HRH titles stripped, but their children will maintain their royal titles, a move Levin believes exposes the “hypocrisy” of the Sussexes.

She told Patrick Christys: “It doesn’t make any sort of sense, even just. A few days ago Harry was complaining about his upbringing and his family now he wants to give his kid a title which means he is attached to that family.

“He wanted to get far away and have his freedom. I think it’s very strange.

“They say one thing and do another, I think it’s snobby really, she will have this title and everyone will see that she is different from other children.”

It was reported that the King, Camilla, William and Kate were invited to the christening but did not attend.

Levin claims the title will become a “burden” on Lilibet as a result of her lack of exposure to royal life.

She told GB News: “Every little girl wants to be a princess of some sort, but they want to do it for a party.

“I think it could be very embarrassing for her, she will know nothing about the Royal Family and I think it will be a burden.”

It is understood the titles will be used in formal settings, but not in everyday conversational use by the couple, and this was the first opportunity to do so since the death of the late Queen.

Harry and Meghan are understood to be keen to not deny their children their birthright, but to allow them the chance to decide for themselves when they are older whether to drop or keep using them.
