The Duke of Sussex may have been irked by actress Elizabeth Debicki winning an award

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were not invited to the Golden Globes award ceremony, a royal commentator has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess did not attend the 81st annual ceremony of the Golden Globes but many A-listers flocked to the event.

Despite no members of the monarchy attending the ceremony, the Royal Family was ridiculed by comedian Jo Koy.

He said: "Harry and Meghan Markle got paid millions for doing absolutely nothing – and that's just by Netflix."

Royal commentator Angela Levin wrote on X: "Harry and Meghan were not invited to last night's Golden Globe awards. They can get away from that by insisting they were busy. But it is much harder to escape the effect of the heavy mocking especially of Meghan."

The comedian also mocked the Royal Family during the Golden Globes.

Koy joked when discussing the TV series Succession: "Just a great series about a rich, white, dysfunctional family, all scheming - oh, wait, that's The Crown. I'm sorry."

The award may have irked Prince William and Prince Harry as Debicki controversially portrayed Diana's ghost in the series.

The actress thanked the young actors who potrayed William and Harry in the series.

Debicki: "Thank you to the creatives of the show for trusting me with this part, to our cast and crew, to my beautiful pretend children, who I just adore."
