A royal commentator has slammed Meghan Markle for her lifestyle brand's "ridiculous" new product.

The Duchess of Sussex launched a new lifestyle brand which gave the public a taste of the products it will be producing as jars of strawberry jam were sent to influencers across the US.

One of the influencers that Meghan sent the gift to was her co-star in Suits, Abigail Spencer, who posted a picture on her social media posing with the condiment.

In the snap, Spencer showed the jam with a ring of lemons as she smiled in the sunshine.

Royal commentator Angela Levin told GB News: "I have to say the jam issue is ridiculous.

"There's a picture of a friend of hers lying on the grass, cuddling a bowl in which the jam is placed in the middle with lemons around it and a dog lying next to her. So she's holding this as if it's someone else that she really loves.

"I think Meghan would have organised that because she would have given her the present. I think this is too far. I mean, it's jam."

Breakfast host Eamonn Holmes added: "It's stupid as well. I mean, if any of us were to bring out a product, Isabel [Webster] might associate with jam. But Meghan Markle?"

Isabel added: "She used to be quite a lifestyle guru pre-Harry. So she's trying to go back to 'look at what I'm wearing, look at what I'm eating'."

Eamonn then asked: "Do you actually think jam crosses her lips?" Isabel added: "Of course not, there is way too much sugar in there."

Levin explained: "They are also saying that it comes from her garden. I mean, how many strawberries has she got?

"Does it mean people? 50 people. That's only enough for them. It's not going to have thousands of people asking for jam."

The Duchess is expected to officially launch American Riviera Orchard later this spring, with a source telling Peoplemagazine last week: "Meghan finds the name American Riviera Orchard perfect. It feels authentic to her.

"She can't wait for the website to launch. She is excited about her latest, personal venture.

"This is something she's been wanting to do for a while.

"She is excited to share her style and things that she loves.'
