Meghan Markle recalled the 'cruel' online abuse she received whilst pregnant with both Archie and Lilibet

Meghan Markle has been branded "hypocritical" by commentator Lizzie Cundy, following her most recent appearance at an event in Texas.

The Duchess of Sussex attended the South by South West (SXSW) festival of events as she joined a panel for International Women's Day.

During her speech, Meghan spoke of the "hateful" and "cruel" online attacks she received during both of her pregnancies.

The royal also revealed that she now "keeps a distance" from social media as a consequence of the abuse.

Meghan told the crowd in Texas: "The bulk of the bullying and abuse that I was experiencing in social media and online, was when I was pregnant with Archie and with Lili.

"And you just think about that and really wrap your head around how people would be so hateful. It’s not catty, it’s cruel, why you would do that? Certainly when you’re pregnant and you have a newborn."

In a discussion with GBN America host Nana Akua, Lizzie Cundy said the remarks were "hypocritical" of the Duchess, given the way the Sussexes have treated the Royal Family since stepping down as senior working royals.

Cundy said the British public are "sick to the back teeth" of hearing Meghan Markle speaking about her own experiences of "online abuse".

Cundy told Nana: "It's so hypocritical and I think people are sick to the back teeth of it.

"She's trying to make a comeback, she's desperately trying to be friends with Taylor Swift, she's trying to get in with a new set of people, and it's just not happening."

Nana responded to Cundy's thoughts and added that it was "interesting" for her to highlight kindness and bullying when she is "on the other breath not seeing her own father."

Nana said: "It just seems absurd that she seems to be unable to absorb the reality of her own behaviour."

Cundy was in agreement with Nana, and said Meghan Markle should "take a leaf out of her own book" when it comes to showing kindness to others.

Cundy said: "She's talking about humanity and being kind, which she's not actually shown much kindness to our Kate, who's going through it and is really not well at the minute.

"She's not shown it to her own family. She's not shown it to her father, who's had a stroke and a heart attack. She's not even been to see him, he's not even seen the grandchildren.

"So where's the kindness there, Meghan? That's what I want to ask."
