The Duchess of Sussex left the union when she joined the Royal Family

Meghan Markle has remained silent as an organisation that she said "protected" her has gone on strike.

The Duchess of Sussex was once a member of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

The union is now striking over pay and the use of artificial intelligence in the industry.

During her interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan described the union membership as something she sorely missed when she joined the Royal Family.

The Duchess of Sussex claimed she told the Palace’s HR department: "I just really need help. Because in my old job there was a union, and they would protect me."

SAG-AFTRA tweeted regarding Meghan's comments in the interview: "We are still here for you, Meghan.

"Everyone deserves the protection of a union."

However, the Duchess of Sussex has not issued a statement on the union's current action.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020.

Since stepping down from the monarchy, Meghan and Harry have launched multiple public attacks on the Royal Family including through TV interviews.

However, Prince Harry is reported to have recently reached out to his brother Prince William in order to discuss the possibility of the Sussexes returning to the UK.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News that Meghan and Harry performing a U-turn and rejoining the monarchy as working members would be a "humiliation" for the couple.

Fizwilliams said: "This would be one of the most bizarre events in royal history if they did return after all the attacks.

"It would be a humiliation for Meghan and Harry."

He added: "The idea that after everything that has happened that Meghan and Harry could just walk back in is beyond extraordinary."
