During their California filming session last year, Ms Smyth demonstrated professional culinary techniques to the duchess.
“The idea was to teach Meghan how to do fine dining and what goes into that, rather than just something you can make at home," the chef explained to The Times.
The pair visited a fish market to source fresh halibut and gathered herbs and vegetables from the Sussexes' Montecito garden.
Whilst Meghan had hoped to master Ms Smyth's signature sourdough recipe from Core, the chef explained the process would be too lengthy for television, as it requires a two-decade-old starter.

Ms Smyth and Meghan’s professional relationship extends back several years, with the the Duchess and Prince Harry frequenting Core before relocating to America.
In 2018, the chef prepared food for 200 guests at their private wedding celebration at Frogmore House in Windsor.
At the time, Harry described the event as: “Just a standard typical night for us.”

Meghan concurred, saying they had enjoyed: “Just a cosy night, it was - what we were doing, just roasting chicken.”
Even with the casual sell from the Sussexes, Ms Smyth was keen to put rumours to bed that she had served Wagyu beef burgers at the party.
“It wouldn’t take a lot to figure out that we probably didn’t cook burgers,” she declared.
In the interview, Ms Smyth also revealed she and Meghan had maintained contact after the event and was personally invited by the Duchess to participate in her Netflix programme from its inception.
