Meghan Markle has severed ties with Netflix and is taking complete control of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, amid concerns the streamer was holding the business back.

The Duchess of Sussex has collaborated with Netflix to promote her brand and created content for the streaming platform, including her show, With Love, Meghan, which received two seasons and a festive special.


Prince Harry and Meghan currently hold a “first-look” deal with Netflix, with projects seemingly on the way.

A source revealed: “Meghan is still on good terms with the Netflix team and close personal friends with Ted (Sarandos) so hasn’t wanted to upset him, but is very happy to have full control of the company.

“It’s a good time for Meghan to have complete control, given recent successes.

“Netflix have been a good partner, but she’s wanted to go global with the brand for some time, but has been held back by the more cautious Netflix team," they told the Sun.

Netflix provided backend staff as well as development teams to help As Ever when it launched in March 2025, but they are now being organised by the duchess.

As Ever products are currently only available in the US, but according to the source, there are plans for the products to now be sold worldwide.

A spokesman for As Ever told GB News: “As ever is grateful for Netflix’s partnership through launch and our first year.

"We have experienced meaningful and rapid growth and As Ever is now ready to stand on its own. We have an exciting year ahead and can’t wait to share more."

Netflix stated: "Meghan’s passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As Ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life.

"As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently, and we look forward to celebrating how she continues to bring joy to households around the world."

The news comes after uncertainty around the future of one of Harry and Meghan's projects arose.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced there would be a film adaptation of “Meet me at the Lake,” but the movie is still without a director or cast three years on from that announcement.

Meghan and Harry revealed in August 2023 that their production company Archewell would bring Carley Fortune's romantic story to screen, with Netflix paying approximately $3million (£2.2million) for the rights.

"Three years in development for a movie like this at Netflix isn't good," a Hollywood source told Page Six.

The prolonged delay has cast doubt over the couple's entire streaming partnership, with their first-look deal now described as "up in the air".

The couple originally secured a lucrative five-year exclusivity agreement with Netflix in September 2020, shortly after stepping back from royal duties, valued at around £74million.

Under that arrangement, all Archewell Productions content would appear solely on the streaming platform.

However, the Sussexes and Netflix have since quietly parted ways on that exclusive contract, mutually agreeing not to make a formal announcement.
