The Princess of Wales yesterday left the world reeling

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry contacted William and Kate privately in a ‘significant’ move towards thawing tensions, according to a royal commentator.

The Princess of Wales yesterday left the world reeling by announcing her cancer diagnosis in a video message.

According to former BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole, the move has prompted contact from the Sussexes amid rife tensions between the two couples.

“It has been reported from California that the Sussexes have reached out privately to Kate and William”, he said.

“We don’t know who spoke to who or what was said but if that did happen, it is significant because it could be the beginning of a renewing of brotherly bonds of love.

“One might say that it’s about time. It must be getting on for two years that Prince William spoke to his younger brother, at one time they were extremely close.

“Prince Harry could not have been closer to them. He got on extraordinarily well with Catherine but of course that changed with Meghan.

“What we are to make of this private reaching out remains to be seen but at this moment in time, William has more pressing matters in mind and that is his wife, Kate.”

The Sussexes yesterday showed their support for Kate publicly in a statement wishing her ‘health and healing’.

The future Queen began a course of ‘preventive chemotherapy’ late in February, saying she is ‘well and getting stronger every day’.

Since stepping down as working royals in 2020 and moving to California, the Sussexes have aired allegations and grievances against the monarchy.

It has soured relations between Harry and his brother and last week the pair made separate appearances at the Diana Awards, a ceremony paying tribute to their mother’s legacy.

This appeared to be a sign of their relationship being at an all time low, but speaking on GB News earlier was Sarah Louise-Robertson, who believes Kate’s diagnosis announcement could prompt a reconciliation.

“Harry reached out to his brother last night”, she said.

“There has been some text messages, some exchanges, and the fact that has happened shows that there could now be maybe a thawing and a bit of an olive branch between the two families.

“And I think, wouldn’t it be lovely if Harry could just make that apology?

“This is the time where you have to put all that bad blood behind you and you come together as a family.

“Catherine’s diagnosis has put everything into perspective, the silly things that they were feuding about, it seems so futile.”
