Archie and Lilibet have not be given royal titles such as prince or princess

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will have to earn royal titles for their children by stopping public attacks on the Royal Family, according to a source.

A rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family has plagued the monarchy over the past two years.

Among the multiple complaints about her treatment by Buckingham Palace, Meghan highlighted her children not automatically being given royal titles upon birth.

Following a string of blistering attacks on the Firm, a source has now claimed: "The matter of titles is still up in the air."

Speaking to Vanity Fair they added: "The feeling is that the titles need to be earned.

"The royals need to know that they can trust Harry and Meghan not to keep damaging the reputation of the family."

The Duchess of Sussex highlighted Archie not being granted a royal title during their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

Oprah asked during the interview: "How did they explain to you that your son, the great-grandson of the Queen, wasn't going to be a prince?"

The TV host added: "You certainly must have had some conversations with Harry about it and had your own suspicions as to why they didn't want to make Archie a prince. Why do you think that is?"

Meghan replied: "They didn't want him to be a prince...which would be different from protocol, and that he wasn't going to receive security."

She continued: "We have in tandem the conversation of, 'He won't be given security. He's not going to be given a title.' And also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born."

In January 2023 during an interview with ITV, Prince Harry addressed Meghan's comments regarding a Royal Family member being concerned at how dark Archie skin would be.

Interviewer Tom Bradby opened with: "In the Oprah interview you accused members of your family of racism."

Harry responded defensively, saying: "No I didn't… The British press said that".

He added: "Did Meghan ever mention that they're racist?"

Bradby replied: "She said there were troubling comments about Archie’s skin colour".

Harry confirmed: "There was concern about his skin colour."

Bradby asked: "Right. Wouldn’t you describe that as essentially racist?"

The Duke of Sussex responded: "I wouldn’t, not having lived within that family."
