Prince Joachim of Denmark has revealed he is considering returning to his homeland after six years living abroad, expressing homesickness in a new television interview.
The Danish royal, who celebrates his 56th birthday on Saturday, currently serves as defence attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington DC, where he has lived since 2023.
"We have a desire to come home," the royal told Denmark's TV2.
However, he tempered the ambition by adding: "We also do not rule out the possibility of staying abroad. Now we have to see."

"For now, it is on our radar, when the post here stops, we will return home," Joachim told the broadcaster.
The prince's posting in Washington is scheduled to last three years with a possible extension, though he has not indicated plans to remain in the United States beyond this period.
His family relocated to America after four years in Paris, where Joachim served as Military Attaché at the Royal Danish Embassy from 2019.
Despite his children Count Henrik, 16, and Countess Athena, 13, developing an "ever-growing social circle" abroad, the prince admitted to feeling homesick.

"Overall, we can all feel it, and we can also feel it in the children, that it is at home in Denmark that we have our largest social base," he said.
Earlier this year, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie attended the Invictus Games in Canada, an event run by other US-based royals, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their role as working royals and moved permanently to the US in 2020.
More recently, Princess Marie has been unable to join her husband for his birthday celebrations due to royal commitments in Denmark and France.

The French-born princess has spent the past week in Copenhagen undertaking engagements for her patronages and charities, including visits to the organisation JunkFood and meetings with Hjernesagen.
She is scheduled to travel to Paris on 10-11 June for events at the historic Grand Palais, including its reopening following extensive restoration.
The couple married at Møgeltønder Church near Schackenborg Castle on 24 May 2008, following their engagement announcement by the Danish royal palace on October 3, 2007.
A return to Denmark would provide additional support for Joachim's brother, King Frederik, and Queen Mary, particularly following Queen Margrethe's abdication in January 2024.

The 85-year-old former monarch now maintains a lighter programme of engagements.
Crown Prince Christian, 19, is currently undertaking military training, whilst his younger siblings remain in education.
Joachim's children are not expected to undertake full-time royal duties in future, following Queen Margrethe's 2022 decision to remove royal titles from his four children.
The move affected Count Nikolai, 25, and Count Felix, 22, from his previous marriage, as well as Henrik and Athena, allowing them to "shape their own lives" without formal royal obligations.
