The King and Queen of Denmark are set to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on May 14 during a royal tour.

A royal commentator has spoken exclusively to GB News about the loving relationship between the new monarchs of Denmark.

She said: “Mary gave a speech during a gala banquet for Frederik’s 50th birthday in 2018 where she moved him to tears in front of many official guests and television cameras that broadcast the gala live.”

On May 14, 2004, Frederik and Mary tied the knot in Copenhagen Cathedral after announcing their engagement the previous year.

The Danish prince met his Australian-born wife at the Slip Inn pub in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics.

Melchior continued: “In the speech, she said ‘We have grown close by giving each other space’ which is one of the successes of their marriage.

“Mary closed the speech with the words of a song ‘This is the space my heart wants to be’.”

The King and Queen of Denmark will be on a state visit to Norway during their anniversary where they are likely to spend time with some of their closest friends.

The royal couple will be visiting the Kings and Queens of their Scandinavian neighbours, who are reportedly good friends.

Melchior continued: “For the Danish King and Queen this is not just an official appointment but the meeting of their closest friends.

“King Frederik was the best man to Crown Prince Haakon at his wedding in 2001. The royal couples of the three Scandinavian monarchies are very close.”

From May 6 to 7, Frederik and Mary will travel to Stockholm to meet with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

The next week, the Danish monarchs will travel to Oslo where they will be greeted by King Harald V and Queen Sonja.

For the duration of their trip, they will travel from country to country aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.

The King has spoken lovingly of his wife on multiple public occasions including during his speech as he ascended the throne in January after his mother, Queen Margrethe abdicated.

He said: “I need all the support I can get. From my beloved wife, from my family, from you and from that which is greater than us. I face the future with the certainty that I am not alone.”

The King and Queen share four children: Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

During a speech on their wedding day, the then Crown Prince told Mary: “I love you, Mary. Come, let us go! Come, let us see! Throughout a thousand worlds, weightless love awaits.”
