The Royal Family has extended birthday wishes to Sir David Attenborough as the celebrated broadcaster marks his centenary today.
In a message posted to official social media channels, the King and Queen wrote: "Wishing Sir David Attenborough a very happy 100th birthday. Enjoy your special celebration this evening!"
The tribute also encouraged viewers to watch the BBC One special honouring the naturalist, stating: "Tune in to 'David Attenborough's 100 Years on Planet Earth' at 8.30pm on BBC One and @BBCiPlayer."
Tonight's celebration at the Royal Albert Hall will feature musical performances from his programmes alongside tributes from prominent figures and environmental campaigners.

The royal tribute came hours after the Duke of Sussex penned a glowing essay for Time magazine, describing Sir David as "a secular saint" whose influence extends far beyond broadcasting.
Harry wrote: "For almost anyone who grew up in the United Kingdom, Sir David Attenborough is more than a broadcaster; he is a secular saint.
"He is an institutional pillar as essential to the national fabric as a cup of tea."

The duke praised the centenarian's "credible authenticity" and ability to resonate with younger generations, attributing this connection to Sir David's "measured demeanour and lack of any conceivable agenda."
Sir David has maintained close ties with the Royal Family throughout his career spanning seven decades.

King Charles III and Prince William were also present at the screening, marking one of the final public occasions where Harry appeared alongside his father and brother before the rift that led to his departure as a working royal.
