Shortly before the reception, a message from the King was shared on social media, highlighting his experience living with cancer.

This message was also printed in a booklet for guests attending the Community Based Cancer Support Reception to read.

GB News understands that the King's treatment is continuing in a very positive direction, as reflected in His Majesty's very full national and international diary programme.

The message read: "Each diagnosis, each new case, will be a daunting and at times frightening experience for those individuals and their loved ones."

The King added: "But as one among those statistics myself, I can vouch for the fact that it can also be an experience that brings into sharp focus the very best of humanity."

He emphasised how his illness had reinforced his appreciation for support organisations.

"The darkest moments of illness can be illuminated by the greatest compassion," the monarch reflected.

Their Majesties and Her Royal Highness met representatives from several royal patronages, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Breast Cancer Now, Maggie's and Children's Hospice South West.

The King and Queen also watched a performance by the ITV Change + Check Choir during the reception.

The choir consists of 26 women who discovered their breast cancer symptoms after seeing an awareness campaign on Lorraine Kelly's ITV1 programme.

This special performance highlighted the importance of cancer awareness initiatives in early detection.
