King Charles is "very disappointed" Meghan Markle is not coming to his Coronation and that as a result he will not get to see Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet next month.
On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry will attend the landmark event on his own.
Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will remain in California instead of flying to the UK.
However, the King is said to have wanted the Duchess of Sussex and her children to attend the Coronation, according to a source.

They told The Sun: "The King is happy that Harry, his son, who he calls his 'darling boy' will be at the Abbey.
"He wanted him there. It is sad, he is very disappointed that he won't see Meghan or his grandchildren but understands the situation."
It comes as Meghan and Harry took part in extensive negotiations with the Royal Family over their attendance at the event.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had remained silent on whether they would attend the Coronation following a statement confirming they had received an invitation to the historic event.
Meghan and Harry also missed the RSVP date of April 3 for the ceremony.
Prince Archie's fourth birthday falls on the same day as King Charles's Coronation.
The Sussexes' decision means that Prince Harry will miss his son's birthday.
However, Meghan Markle will be with Prince Archie to celebrate the occasion.

Omid Scobie, a friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has claimed that Prince Archie's birthday has been factored into the couple's decision.
Scobie wrote: "I understand that Archie's fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple's decision.
"Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the Coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey."
