Sources added that there is a "willingness and wanting to mend on both sides."

King Charles is "happy" that Prince Harry will attend the Coronation and also "understanding" of Meghan Markle's decision to stay behind, according to royal insiders.

Last week it was announced in statements by Buckingham Palace and Archewell that Prince Harry would attend the Coronation on his own.

It was also confirmed that Meghan Markle will stay in California with the couple's two young children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Prince Archie's fourth birthday falls on the same day as his grandfather's Coronation.

Meghan and Harry's son is to miss out on a tribute from King Charles on the historic day.

The Duke of Sussex will only attend the ceremony before swiftly racing back to the US to be with his son on the evening of his birthday.

According to a source, King Charles was considering holding a toast to Prince Archie at the Coronation lunch to mark his birthday.

However, this is now unlikely to happen due to Prince Harry deciding not to attend the banquet.

The source told the Mail: "The King considered a toast to Archie.

"But with no member of the Sussex family now due at the lunch, it is highly unlikely he would do in their absence."
