King Charles is in "genuine good spirits" ahead of his prostate surgery next week, it has been claimed.

The King, 75, is reported to be currently staying at Birkhall, his private home near Balmoral in Aberdeenshire.

Queen Camilla's husband is said to “genuinely be in good spirits” and in “good form”, ahead of the upcoming surgery.

The Queen is also understood to be with him, according to royal sources.

Earlier today it was announced that King Charles is set for a hospital procedure next week for an enlarged prostate.

This comes as all of the King's upcoming public engagements have been postponed.

The Palace has declined to say whether he would be treated in London or Scotland.

The King was diagnosed on Wednesday after experiencing symptoms and going for a check-up earlier this week.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “In common with thousands of men each year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

It is understood King Charles was keen to share the details of his diagnosis to encourage others to get checked.

The King had a series of meetings and events planned at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire on Thursday and Friday. However, these are now being postponed on his doctor’s advice.

Just over an hour before King Charles made his surgery announcement, it was made known that Kate, Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital on Tuesday.

The princess, 42, is having planned abdominal surgery and is expected to remain in hospital for between 10 and 14 days.

It is expected that Kate will not return to royal duties until at least after Easter.

Prince William has been praised for halting royal duties during this period to help his wife and family during the recuperation period.
