King Charles and Queen Camilla carried out a number of engagements in the city to celebrate its status as the UK City of Culture.

The King has revealed he likes to think he is on the "better side" of his cancer journey, during a poignant engagement in Bradford on Thursday.

His Majesty visited Impact Hub Yorkshire to meet local business owners, supporting diverse communities in the city.

Safeena Khan, who runs a local floristry business, presented King Charles with a bouquet inspired by his gardens at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.

As a cancer survivor, she spoke openly with The King about their shared experiences.

Khan said: "He asked me how I was, and I asked him how he was. There were some pleasantries towards the end, but it was a lovely conversation."

The King, who still undergoes a weekly cycle of cancer treatment, gave Safeena the "thumbs up", when asked about his health, and told her: "I'd like to think I'm on the better side [of my cancer journey]".

Khan continued: "It is not something easy to discuss. Two years on [from my own cancer journey], I still find it difficult.

"I think you have to accept that you're going through it first, and then the fight begins. I think the key is that you don't give up on yourself. The biggest form of disrespect to yourself is giving up."

Meanwhile, the King hugged tailor Imran Khan as the pair reunited after two years, having first met during the monarch's visit to Bradford in November 2022.

Khan claims a green jacket, which he presented to His Majesty at the time, is "worn casually" by the monarch on the Balmoral Castle estate in Scotland.

On Thursday, the King helped stitch a special label to a new black jacket, which is being sent to Buckingham Palace for His Majesty to wear.

Khan's business is supported by Impact Hub Yorkshire to provide apprenticeship opportunities for young people to learn tailoring skills.

He said: "[The King] asked us if we employed young people. [Tailoring] is a dying trade, and we need to pass the skills on to the younger generation and create more jobs."

Impact Hub Yorkshire (formerly known as Impact Hub Bradford) is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and is expanding Yorkshire-wide to support those wanting to make a positive difference in the region.

Impact Hub Yorkshire’s CEO and founder, Kamran Rashid, said: "It was an honour to host His Majesty The King at Impact Hub Yorkshire’s offices here in Little Germany, Bradford, and show him the work our organisation does."

"Our members spoke passionately about their own experiences and the projects that Impact Hub has helped to facilitate. Having the recognition of this visit is an important milestone for us all, as we look towards an exciting future helping individuals and organisations throughout Yorkshire."

King Charles and Queen Camilla carried out a number of engagements in Bradford on Thursday to celebrate its status as the UK City of Culture.

His Majesty continues a full programme of national and international engagements as he continues to live with cancer.

Earlier this month, his youngest son told the BBC: "I don't know how much longer my father has" while addressing their ongoing estrangement - which Prince Harry attributes to his legal battle with the Home Office over security arrangements.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
