The King was briefly hospitalised in March due to side effects from treatment

King Charles provided a royal fan with a health update today during his trip to Newmarket with Queen Camilla.

The King, who was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in 2024, visited the Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket on Tuesday after touring the nearby National Stud.

Over 1,000 people flocked to the Suffolk town’s centre to greet Charles and Camilla during their royal walkabout.

Lee Harman, 54, from Bury St Edmunds, told Wales Online: “I asked him how he was, and he said he was feeling a lot better now and that it was ‘just one of those things’.”

Harman told King Charles about his own cancer issues, as he explained to the publication: “He asked me how I was and I said ‘I’m all good’, I got the all-clear from cancer last year.”

The year 2024 was rocked by health crises for several members of the Royal Family.

On January 17, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced the King was receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate.

On the same day, Kensington Palace announced Princess Kate had undergone abdominal surgery.

On February 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer and would begin treatment.

"During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer," the Palace said in a statement.

The following day, Prince Harry, who had been locked in a feud with his father for several years, flew to the UK to see his estranged father.

On March 22, the Princess of Wales confirmed she too had been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

In December 2024, Buckingham Palace confirmed the King's treatment would continue into the following year.

The treatment caused temporary side effects in March that resulted in King Charles being briefly hospitalised.

However, earlier this month, the Keeper of the Privy Purse, James Chalmers, gave a positive health update: “This year has, of course, seen something of a ‘return to normal business’ after the health challenges faced by members of the family in the previous fiscal year.

“The King demonstrated remarkable resilience by undertaking a wide program of public and State duties at home and overseas while continuing to receive treatment, demonstrating not only His Majesty's personal commitment to duty but also the adaptability and resilience of the Royal Household in ensuring continuity of service, no matter the personal circumstances.”
