King Charles and Queen Camilla sent a message to a boy aged nine after he missed a garden party at Buckingham Palace.

On Wednesday afternoon, Charles held a garden party for over 8,000 guests including Prince Edward, the Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne.

Included in the guest list was double-amputee Tony Hudgell who lost both his legs to abuse by his birth parents.

However, the young boy and his adoptive mother were forced to miss the party as they got stuck in traffic on the way to London.

Paula Hudgell posted on X explaining: “Stuck on the M20 for last 2 hours won’t be making the King’s Garden Party.”

The tweet was posted with a picture of Tony wearing a blue t-shirt and black sunglasses.

The Royal Family’s official X account replied to the tweet stating: “Sorry to hear this, Tony! We were looking forward to seeing you too.

“Fancy trying this again another day? Leave it with us…”

Tony had such severe injuries inflicted on his lower legs he has had prosthetics since he was a toddler.

The young boy from Maidstone, Kent, became a fundraiser and the recipient of the Pride of Britain Award and UK Points of Light Award.

Replying to the King and Queen’s answer, Paula said: “Thank you so much for this wonderful reply, we were all so disappointed and flat tonight. This tweet has certainly lifted our spirits and Tony is going to bed now much happier.”

The garden party would not be the first time Tony has met with royalty; the nine-year-old hasmet Princess Kate on several occasions.

The Prince and Princess of Wales previously hailed Tony a hero over his extraordinary fundraising walks for vulnerable children.

After being inspired by Sir Tom Moore, he raised around £2million for charity by walking 10km in 30 days.

After his fundraising walk, Tony met with Kate and William who “spent ages” chatting with him at the Together At Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey in 2023.

Moreover, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis posted letters to Tony at Princess Kate’s annual Christmas service.
